What a ride actually costs
Most medical transport companies will not give you a price until you call. Here is ours, in full, before you pick up the phone.
A base fare plus the miles you travel
Ambulatory transport is $35 to start and $2.75 for each mile travelled. That is the whole formula. There is nothing added at the end.
Every quote is given before the trip is booked. There is no surge pricing and no charge for a quote.
A 6-mile trip to your appointment
- Base fare
- $35
- 6 miles × $2.75
- $16.50
- One-way total
- $51.50
A return leg is charged the same way. Book both at once and you are on the schedule for the ride home before you leave.
Included in the fare
- Door-to-door assistance — met at the door, walked in at the other end
- One companion or caregiver rides along at no extra charge
- Time built in for winter conditions and traffic, not charged as waiting
- Return leg booked at the same time as the outbound
What changes the price
- Distance from pickup to destination
- Whether you need a return leg
- Trips outside the seven-county metro, which are quoted individually
Travelling every week costs less than travelling once
Dialysis three times a week, standing therapy appointments, an adult day programme five days a week — these are booked as a standing schedule and priced as a contract rather than trip by trip.
The same is true for healthcare facilities coordinating transport for several people. Tell us the pattern — how many riders, which days, roughly how far — and you will get a written monthly figure.
Ask for a written quoteHow you can pay
- Private pay — credit card, debit card, or invoice
- Healthcare facility billing arrangements, where a facility has contracted with us directly
If you are on Medical Assistance
Minnesota Medical Assistance (Medicaid) does cover non-emergency medical transportation for eligible members. Mediride cannot bill Medicaid directly at this time. Call us and we will tell you honestly where your coverage stands and, if we are not the right fit, point you to a provider who can bill it.
Appointments move. Most of the time that costs you nothing
Cancelling
- More than 2 hours before
- Free
- Less than 2 hours before
- $20
- No-show
- $35
A no-show is charged at the base fare only. We do not bill mileage for a trip we did not drive.
Waiting
The driver waits 15 minutes at pickup at no charge, and longer if you call to say you are on your way.
If your appointment runs over, we come back as soon as we can and there is no extra charge. A clinic running late is not something we will bill you for.
Never charged
- The clinic cancelled, rescheduled or moved the appointment
- You were admitted, held, or told to stay for a medical reason
- It is the first time — everyone gets one
- Severe weather made the trip unsafe
