Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT)?

Non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) gets patients to and from medical care when they do not need an ambulance. Mediride provides the ambulatory type: passengers who can walk to the vehicle and sit in a standard seat, with door-to-door assistance.

Does insurance or Medicaid cover NEMT rides in Minnesota?

Minnesota Medicaid (Medical Assistance) does cover non-emergency medical transportation for eligible members who have no other means of getting to medical appointments. Mediride currently arranges trips as private pay or on a facility-invoiced account — call us and we will tell you where your coverage stands.

How far in advance do I need to book a ride?

We recommend booking at least 24–48 hours in advance for scheduled appointments. However, we do accept same-day requests subject to availability. For recurring rides such as dialysis, we set up a standing schedule for your convenience.

Do you assist passengers door-to-door?

Yes. Door-to-door assistance is part of the service — from your door to the facility entrance and back, including a steadying arm and help getting in and out of the vehicle.

What areas do you serve?

Our Minnesota STS certification covers the Twin Cities seven-county metro: Hennepin, Ramsey, Dakota, Anoka, Washington, Scott and Carver. We cover Minneapolis, St. Paul, Bloomington, Eden Prairie, Edina and Minnetonka most closely. If your pickup and destination are both inside the seven counties, call and we will quote the trip.
