Ambulatory transportation is for passengers who can walk to and from the vehicle and sit in a standard passenger seat. Your driver provides door-to-door assistance — meeting you at the door, helping you to the vehicle, and walking you in at the other end.

Anyone who needs a dependable ride to medical care and can enter and exit a standard vehicle with the assistance we provide. This includes older adults who no longer drive, people attending recurring treatment, and patients heading home after outpatient care.

No. Mediride currently provides ambulatory transportation only, and is not certified for wheelchair, stretcher or bariatric transport. If that is what you need, tell us when you call and we will point you to a provider who can help.

We recommend 24 to 48 hours ahead so we can confirm availability. Same-day requests are sometimes possible depending on scheduling, so it is always worth calling.

Yes. Recurring schedules are what we do best — dialysis, therapy and any treatment that repeats week after week. We set the pattern up once so you are not rebooking every time.

Yes. Choose round trip when you request your ride and we will arrange both legs, including the wait or the return pickup time.

No. Mediride is non-emergency transportation only. We are not an ambulance service and cannot respond to medical emergencies. If you are experiencing an emergency, call 911.

Ambulatory transport is $35 to start plus $2.75 for each mile travelled. A 6-mile trip is $51.50 one way. You are given the price before the trip is booked, and a return leg is charged the same way.

Yes. One companion or caregiver rides at no extra charge — tell us when you book so the seat is there. They do need to be able to get in and out of the vehicle on their own, because the driver is assisting you. A child riding along needs a car seat provided by the family.

Minnesota Medical Assistance (Medicaid) does cover non-emergency medical transportation for eligible members. Mediride cannot bill Medicaid directly at this time. Call us and we will tell you honestly where your coverage stands and, if we are not the right fit, point you to a provider who can bill it.

Every Mediride driver must complete a four-level certification program of 19 training modules, then 40 hours of supervised driving, before carrying passengers alone. Mediride is owner-operated, and the owner has completed that program in full. Any driver added later completes it before carrying passengers alone.

Cancel more than 2 hours before pickup and there is no charge. Inside 2 hours it is $20, and a no-show is $35 — the base fare only, never mileage for a trip we did not drive. There is no fee at all if the clinic cancelled, if you were admitted or held for a medical reason, if it is the first time, or in severe weather.

The driver waits 15 minutes at pickup at no charge, and longer if you call or text to say you are coming. For appointments under 45 minutes the driver can usually wait and it is included. Longer ones are booked as two one-way trips or as will-call, where you ring when you are ready and we give you a return window of about 20 to 40 minutes. If your appointment overruns we come back as soon as we can and there is no extra charge.
